Cookware: Cook Books
When it comes to purchasing cook books, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind. A cook book is meant to be used, and the first decision you need to make is what type of food you want to learn how to cook. The sky is the limit when it comes to cook book types, and you can find everything from books on Ethiopian stews to French country cooking to soul food.
Great cook books are generally characterized by excellent photos, accompanied by easy to follow recipe instructions. Some of the really nice cook books, like those from Giuliano Bugialli, are absolutely gorgeous. The photographs actually inspire you to cook, and his instructions are clear enough to make even complicated timbale seem simple.
Some of the better cook books have a little bit of history packed between their covers as well. If youre completely new to a style of cooking, it can help a great deal to know a little about where the cuisine developed and the people who developed it. When you understand and can relate to the origins of a particular style of cooking, youre more able to apply your own variations without compromising authenticity.
Cook Books Are Guides, Not Rules
A thorough cook book will instill a sense of adventure in your cooking style, and will inspire you to branch out from your standards. It will also introduce you to other cultures and other ways of seeing the world. You can find cook books online at book websites and culinary supply websites.
